Leave of Absence Request

Dear Parent/Carer,
All schools by law must follow the Department for Education’s statutory guidance relating to school attendance.  They must use the appropriate national attendance or absence code, and follow the criteria set out within the guidance.  The statutory guidance states:
·         A leave of absence must not be granted unless there are exceptional circumstances and must be requested in advance.
·         A leave of absence must be requested in advance by a parent who the pupil normally lives with
·         Schools must judge each application individually, considering the specific facts and circumstances and relevant background context behind each request.
·         Where a leave of absence is granted, the school will determine the number of days a pupil can be absent from school.
·         A need or desire for a holiday or other absence for the purpose of leisure and recreation would not constitute an exceptional circumstance.
·         A school cannot grant a leave of absence retrospectively. If the parent did not apply in advance, the leave of absence should not be granted.
·         Where this guidance refers to a parent, the school and/or local authority will need to decide which adult(s) is most appropriate. Generally, parents include:
·         All natural parents, whether they are married or not.
·         All those who have parental responsibility.
·         Those who have day to day responsibility for the child.
Please note all schools are expected to regularly inform parents about their child’s attendance and absence.
Taking your child out of school during term time could be detrimental to their educational progress. If the absence is not authorised and the leave is taken, schools may refer to the Local Authority for legal action.
Below is the guidance document “Helping Parents understand Penalty Notice Fines for School Attendance”.

Image Consent

Consent for Children to Appear in Photographs or in Videos and How They Will Be Used

We occasionally take photographs of the children at our school.  These images will generally be used in our pupil database, and in photographs displayed around the school to showcase what we do.  In addition, we may need to record or live stream images for educational purposes and to deliver the curriculum – these will only be accessible internally to staff and pupils.  We may also make or stream video or webcam recordings for delivering the curriculum.

It is important that we protect your child’s interests, respect your wishes and comply with Data Protection law. Please read the Conditions of Use below before completing our image consent form. Please complete a form for each child at our school; we will not use a photograph or video of your child without consent.

Please note there are certain activities where we do not use consent as the basis for processing your child’s data. There are described in our Privacy Notices: https://manland.herts.sch.uk/key-information/statutory-information/. We may also take photos/video of your child for identification purposes and for evidencing their educational development – such data will sit on their file and not be shared unless the law requires us to do so or you have given your specific consent.

Please note that you can withdraw your consent at any time, by submitting another image consent form. If you have any queries or wish to withdraw or review your consent, you can contact the Headteacher on admin@manland.herts.sch.uk.

Conditions of Use:

  • This consent form is valid indefinitely from the date you sign it. It is your responsibility to let us know if you want to change or withdraw your agreement at any time.
  • The school will not re-use any photographs or recordings of your child that are incompatible with the original purposes explained to you.
  • If we use photographs of individual pupils, we will not use the full name of that child in any accompanying text or caption without consent, nor will we include any other personal data.
  • We may use group or class photographs or footage with very general labels, such as ‘a science lesson’.

Further information on how we use your data and your child’s personal data is in the Privacy Notice(s) available here:
